Retired judge Bibhas Kanti Kilikdar has taken the oath of office as Tripura Lokayukta, succeeding K N Bhattacharya. The oath was administered by Governor Indrasena Reddy on Friday at Raj Bhavan in Agartala, with Chief Minister Manik Saha in attendance.

Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed the event on social media, stating, 'Today attended the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-appointed Lokayukta of Tripura Dr Bivash Kanti Kilikdar at Raj Bhavan, Agartala.' Kilikdar's appointment took effect on July 9 for a three-year term.

Tripura Lokayukta is an autonomous entity designed to address corruption complaints within the state. The Tripura Lokayukta Bill, enacted in 2008 and amended three times, empowers the Lokayukta to investigate corruption and function as an ombudsman. The act was implemented on March 22, 2010.

The Lokayukta aims to ensure transparent and fair governance. The first Lokayukta of Tripura, appointed in 2011, was retired judge P K Sarkar.

Meanwhile, the recent three-tier Panchayat elections held on August 8 saw the ruling BJP claim a decisive victory across various constituencies. The BJP won all 8 Zilla Parishads and secured 585 out of 606 Gram Panchayats, dominating 34 Panchayat Samities. (ANI)
