Odisha CM Felicitates Bronze Medalist Amit Rohidas

Amit Rohidas, an Indian hockey player, was felicitated by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi upon his return from the Paris Olympics on Friday, where he won a bronze medal. Rohidas, the sole representative from Odisha in the Indian men's hockey team, was honored at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Majhi hailed Rohidas as a source of great pride for Odisha, highlighting his exceptional contribution to bringing honor to both the state and the nation. Emphasizing Rohidas's embodiment of Odia identity, Majhi noted that the player has showcased Odia pride on a global platform.

Terming the day as special, Majhi expressed optimism that India would clinch a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, backed by the blessings of Lord Jagannath and the well-wishes of over 4 crore Odia people. Praising Rohidas as an inspiration for the youth, he reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting hockey and announced the continuation of Odisha's sponsorship of the Indian hockey team until 2036.

Rohidas expressed his joy at returning to Odisha and the pleasure of meeting the Chief Minister. He remarked on the historic achievement of the Indian hockey team in winning consecutive Olympic medals after a gap of 52 years. He extended gratitude to sports enthusiasts in Odisha and nationwide for their support.

As a token of appreciation, Rohidas presented a signed Olympic jersey and a mascot to Chief Minister Majhi, with the jersey bearing signatures from the entire Indian men's hockey team. The Odisha government also announced a Rs 4 crore reward for Rohidas's achievement, along with additional financial incentives for the team members and support staff.

The Indian men's hockey team secured the bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1 at the Paris Olympics. (ANI)
