The Ministry of Law and Justice announced on Monday the appointment of Bibhu Datta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad as Additional Judges for the Chhattisgarh High Court. The official notification, backed by Article 224 of the Constitution, confirms their two-year tenure starting upon assuming their roles.

On July 30, 2024, a Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai recommended the appointments. The Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh, alongside senior colleagues and with the concurrence of the Chief Minister and Governor, had earlier endorsed the nominees in February 2024.

The Collegium's review indicated no integrity issues against Bibhu Datta Guru, recognizing his participation in numerous cases reflected in 54 reported judgments. Similarly, Amitendra Kishore Prasad, noted for his impressive practice and 110 reported judgments, also had a positive assessment. The Collegium affirmed both candidates' suitability for their new judicial roles.
