Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35(A) as a 'watershed moment' in India's history, marking five years since the move. He asserted that it ushered in a new era of progress and prosperity for Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

'Today we mark 5 years since the Parliament of India decided to abrogate Articles 370 and 35(A), a watershed moment in our nation's history. It was the start of a new era of progress and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,' Modi posted on X. 'With abrogation came security, dignity and opportunity for women, youth, backwards, tribal and marginalised communities,' he added.

Meanwhile, Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the government on Article 370's fifth anniversary, alleging the BJP neither respects 'Kashmiriyat' nor upholds 'Jamhuriyat' (democracy). Kharge claimed that Jammu and Kashmir still faces terrorism, economic difficulties, and high unemployment rates. The Congress leader noted that 65% of government posts remain vacant and only 3% of promised investments have materialized since 2019.
