Chief Minister N Biren Singh has offered an apology to the people of Manipur amidst the ongoing crisis that has claimed around 200 lives and displaced many. Addressing the public on Tuesday, Singh urged citizens to move beyond the turmoil and embrace a vision of peace and prosperity for the state.

The violence, primarily between the Meitei and Kuki communities, was triggered by a May 3, 2023, rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur, following a court directive related to the Meitei community's inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes list. Reflecting on the unrest, Singh expressed profound regret and emphasized his commitment to restoring normalcy.

The Chief Minister called for unity, asking communities to 'forget past mistakes' and aspire for a harmonious future. Over the past months, efforts have been made to achieve stability, with notable progress in reducing tensions. Singh reported that authorities have registered about 12,247 FIRs, arrested 625 individuals, and recovered 5,600 arms and approximately 35,000 rounds of ammunition.

The central government has allocated resources, bolstering security and funding the reconstruction of homes for the displaced. Singh is optimistic that these measures will aid in the complete recovery of peace in Manipur, with hopes pinned on the upcoming year to usher a new era of cohesion among its people.
