Prayers were offered at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on the third Monday of the significant 'Sawan' month. The revered Bhasma Aarti was also performed. Simultaneously, prayers took place at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttar Pradesh and Gauri Shankar Mandir in Delhi.

As scores of devotees arrived at Mahakaleshwar temple on Friday, they celebrated 'Sawan Shivratri' by offering prayers and taking dips in the sacred Ganga river. The Sawan month, devoted to Lord Shiva, blesses worshippers abundantly.

Sawan, typically occurring between July and August, holds mythological importance in Hinduism, commemorating Lord Shiva's act of consuming oceanic poison to save the universe. Devotees engage in fasting, prayers, and rituals like Rudrabhishek during this period.

Fasting on Mondays during Sawan is a common practice among devotees, who often abstain from grains and consume fruits, milk, and specific fasting foods. Chanting Shiva mantras, singing bhajans, and performing ritualistic offerings are fervently observed in households and temples nationwide.
