The Odisha government has announced the launch of 82 new primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS) and 21 primary milk cooperative societies in Ganjam district. This proactive decision aims to boost cooperative activities and enhance economic welfare among the local farmers.
The decision emerged from the Ganjam district cooperative development committee meeting, chaired by district collector Dibyajyoti Parida. The collector urged officials to prepare feasibility reports for the establishment of new PACS in panchayats currently lacking such facilities.
While PACS presently operate in 421 out of 503 panchayats in the district, the initiative seeks to expand coverage further. Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Biswaranjan Das, highlighted that five PACS would also be transformed into multi-purpose societies to diversify their business ventures, including dairy, fishery, and sale of essential commodities.
