The National Medical Commission (NMC) will begin counselling for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) on August 14, officials announced on Wednesday.

NMC Secretary B Srinivas stated, "As per the schedule, we are starting the counselling (for NEET UG) on August 14. We may advance the registration process for the students. The process will continue for two months, and eligible students across the country can participate. The counselling will be conducted online in four rounds."

Seats will be allocated based on merit and preference. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the revised NEET UG 2024 results on Friday, showing a significant drop in the number of top scorers from 67 to 17 students achieving a perfect score.

The previous results announced on June 4 had 67 candidates scoring a perfect 720 marks, with six receiving extra marks due to invigilator errors. The Supreme Court has since ruled for one accurate answer, negating grace marks for incorrect answers.

The NTA also conducted a retest for students affected by time loss, reducing the number of qualified candidates from 1,316,268 to 1,315,853. The exam, held on May 5, saw 1,331,321 female, 996,393 male, and 17 transgender candidates. The revised process followed allegations of paper leaks and irregularities.
