Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the Saputara Megh Malhar Parva 2024 on Monday, a month-long event organized by the Department of Tourism and Gujarat Tourism to bolster local employment and tourism at Saputara, the state's only hill station, according to an official statement.

The festival, running from July 29 to August 28, 2024, features a variety of programs that highlight the indigenous cultures of Dang, along with the 'Rain Run Marathon.' The event has its roots in 2009, initiated under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Boat House Ground in Saputara and will start with a colorful parade in front of the Tourism Corporation's Toran Hotel. The parade will include local musical instruments, fun characters, tribal dances, and various performances showcasing the local heritage.

Following the parade, a cultural program will be held near Saputara lake. Chief Minister Patel will later flag off the 'Rain Run Marathon' near Saputara Circle. The event will also host various cultural activities on weekends and public holidays to enrich the visitors' experience.

Prominent attractions around Saputara like the Eco Tourism Camp Site, Gira Falls, Governor's Hill, and Vansada National Park will be showcased. Additionally, tourists can enjoy workshops, handicraft and photography exhibitions, and other recreational activities.

The festival, a significant initiative of the Gujarat Tourism Corporation, has gradually boosted the number of visitors, enhancing local income and employment opportunities in Dang and surrounding areas. Known as the 'Cherapunji of Gujarat,' Saputara receives abundant monsoon rainfall, further enhancing its appeal to tourists.
