The Karnataka cabinet on Friday approved the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, a decision that was followed by an announcement made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Addressing a press conference, Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil stated, "The (state) cabinet has approved to rename Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South district."
Earlier this month, Shivakumar mentioned that a delegation of district leaders had proposed the renaming, considering the future development of the taluks in Ramanagara. The proposal saw district leaders meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha.
Shivakumar emphasized that the renaming will boost development, facilitate industry establishment, and increase property values. The new name aligns with Bengaluru's global recognition. The proposal includes Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Harohalli, and Kanakapura taluks, retaining Ramanagara as the central administration while rebranding it as Bengaluru South District.
