Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel announced on Friday that 37 cases of the Chandipura virus have been confirmed across the state. The government has initiated multiple measures to contain the virus.

At a press conference, Patel noted, "So far, around 133 cases have been registered. Of these, 37 are confirmed Chandipura cases. The remaining cannot be definitively classified as Acute Viral Syndrome based on symptoms alone."

Earlier this month, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed the situation and assessed measures to manage the outbreak. The Chandipura Virus belongs to the Rhabdoviridae family and is typically spread by sand flies and ticks. The virus primarily affects children under 15, causing febrile illnesses that can sometimes lead to death. Preventative measures include vector control, hygiene, and awareness. Since June 2024, cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) have also been reported among children.
