India successfully conducted the Phase-II flight test of its Ballistic Missile Defence System on Wednesday, as announced by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Target Missile, replicating an adversary's ballistic missile, was launched from LC-IV Dhamra at 16:20 hours and detected by ground and sea-based weapon system radars, which then activated the AD Interceptor system. The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile followed at 16:24 hours from LC-III at ITR, Chandipur, according to a DRDO statement.

The successful flight test met all trial objectives, demonstrating a robust network-centric warfare weapon system inclusive of long-range sensors, a low-latency communication system, and advanced Interceptor missiles. The trial validated India's capability to defend against 5000 km class ballistic missiles. Performance metrics were closely monitored through flight data captured by range tracking instruments such as Electro-Optical Systems, Radar, and Telemetry Stations at various locations, including on-board ships, DRDO added.

The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile is a two-stage, solid-propelled, ground-launched missile system designed to neutralize various enemy ballistic missile threats within endo to low exo-atmospheric regions. Incorporating numerous state-of-the-art technologies developed by DRDO laboratories, the successful test reflects significant advancements. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman congratulated the entire DRDO team for their tireless efforts, underscoring the nation's indigenous missile defense prowess.
