In a tragic outcome of a fire on the warship INS Brahmaputra, the body of Leading Seaman Sitendra Singh was recovered on Wednesday after extensive diving operations at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. A Defence Ministry statement confirmed that Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, had reviewed the incident in Mumbai on July 23.

Admiral Tripathi, along with all Indian Navy personnel, extended heartfelt condolences to Singh's family. The Navy assured the family of their unwavering support during this difficult time. The Chief of Naval Staff was briefed on the measures taken to minimize the damage and expedite the recovery and repair of the ship's operational capabilities.

The Chief of Naval Staff instructed that all necessary actions be taken by Command and Naval Headquarters to ensure the INS Brahmaputra is swiftly made seaworthy and combat-ready. He encouraged the crew to work diligently towards bringing the ship back to operational status, embodying the resilient spirit of the Indian Navy.

A fire broke out on INS Brahmaputra, which was under refit at the Naval dockyard, on July 21. The following day, Admiral Tripathi informed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the incident and its impacts.

In a social media update on July 22, the Defence Minister's office stated that Admiral Tripathi had fully briefed him on the situation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed prayers for the missing sailor's safety and directed appropriate actions.

INS Brahmaputra is notable as the first indigenous guided missile frigate of its class in India. (ANI)
