Congress MLA Satish Sail on Friday implored Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to visit the landslide-affected area in Uttara Kannada. The landslide near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk on National Highway 66 has claimed four lives and left three others missing.

"I have requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and our Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, to come here. Although our district minister has already visited, it is imperative that they also come to address this matter," Sail told ANI. Villagers have been evacuated to care centers where they are provided with food and necessary care.

"We are providing quality food and have inquired about their well-being. We are taking care of them in this time of disaster. All departments, including the NDRF, SDRF, and Navy, are actively involved. The government is offering full support," he added. Sail personally visited the care centers sheltering the affected residents.

Restoration efforts are ongoing in the landslide-hit area. Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya informed ANI that seven people have been impacted, including four members of a family. "A major landslide engulfed a tea stall and two houses in Shirur. Of the seven missing individuals, four bodies have been recovered, while three remain unaccounted for," Priya stated.

The landslide was attributed to incessant rains inundating the area, complicating rescue and recovery operations. (ANI)
