Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday urged farmers to implement natural farming on at least a portion of their land, assuring that the government will provide subsidies to cover crop losses during the initial two years.
Chouhan, addressing a natural farming programme alongside UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, emphasized that natural farming yields may initially be lower, hence the subsidy support. The programme, 'Praakritik kheti ki vigyaan par kshetreey paraamarsh karyakram', underscored the commitment to chemical-free agriculture to ensure healthier future generations.
Highlighting economic benefits, Chouhan noted that produce from natural farming could fetch 1.5 times higher prices. He also announced plans to establish research laboratories in agricultural universities and to launch a nationwide awareness campaign involving all stakeholders. Gujarat Governor Devvrat added that natural farming uses less water and offers significant advantages to farmers.
