In the wake of the tragic Unnao bus accident, which claimed 18 lives, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a stark warning to transport department officials, pledging stringent measures against any unauthorized buses found on state roads. During a high-level meeting at his residence, CM Yogi underscored the necessity of rigorous checks on permits, fitness, insurance, and drivers of all passenger and school buses operating within the state. He also instructed transport department officials to adhere strictly to road safety regulations.

Responding to the Chief Minister's directives, the Transport Department has launched a month-long intensive campaign aimed at curbing unauthorized vehicles. CM Yogi directed the Principal Secretary of Transport to explain the unchecked presence of unauthorized buses and demanded immediate action against the bus owners. He stressed that senior officials would be held accountable for any unauthorized buses on the roads and that passenger safety cannot be compromised under any circumstances.

With strict orders from CM Yogi Adityanath, Transport Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Singh has started a statewide campaign to scrutinize unauthorized vehicles, focusing on both passenger and school buses. Instructions have been given to all Deputy Transport Commissioners, Regional Transport Officers, and Assistant Regional Transport Officers to carry out continuous inspections throughout the month. A detailed schedule for enforcement has been organized, with officers assigned to various toll plazas to ensure compliance.

Moreover, divisional enforcement officers have been mandated to personally oversee actions at designated toll plazas, supported by the deployment of interceptors. The Transport Department also plans to document actions and disseminate information through a dedicated WhatsApp group.

On July 10, 18 people were killed and 19 others injured when a double-decker bus collided with a milk container on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased from the PM's National Relief Fund, along with Rs. 50,000 for the injured. (ANI)
