Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reported on Wednesday the recovery of 144 bodies from landslide-hit areas in Wayanad district, noting that approximately 191 individuals remain unaccounted for.
Vijayan disclosed that over 200 people have been admitted to hospitals, and 5,592 individuals have been rescued from the landslides-ravaged high-range district.
Additionally, 8,017 people including children and pregnant women, have been relocated to the 82 operational camps in the district, said Vijayan during a press conference.
The district administration cautioned that the death toll may rise, with hundreds feared buried under the debris.
Massive landslides, triggered by torrential rains, struck Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha hamlets early Tuesday, resulting in significant loss of life including women and children.
