Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 12 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Division in Udhampur has launched an innovative solution to increase forest cover in challenging terrains by using seed balls dispersed via cable cars.

This eco-friendly initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' campaign and the 'JK Green Drive.' Targeting the Gondola area in Patnitop-Kud, a popular tourist spot, the effort aims to address the challenges posed by dryness, sparse vegetation, and difficult terrain.

Range Officer Ashish Mahajan explained, 'We have dispersed around 3,500 seed balls here. Recognizing the need for more, we assured the distribution of 10,000 seed balls. Future drives will also focus on massive green drives and plantation.'

Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai noted, 'The Forest Department's initiative is timely, occurring before monsoons to facilitate seed growth in a conducive environment.'

Forest officials have capitalized on the Gondola cable car system to drop approximately 3,500 seed balls, aiming to boost tree density and enhance the scenic beauty of the region. This effort significantly contributes to the JK Green Drive, holding great promise for expanding green cover, especially in hard-to-reach areas, and promoting long-term biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
