In a compassionate move, Uttar Pradesh Minister Sandeep Singh revealed on Friday that both the central and state governments have promised a joint compensation package of Rs 4 lakhs for the families impacted by the Hathras stampede.

This announcement came on the heels of Congress Leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi's visit to the beleaguered families. Singh emphasized that the disbursement process is already in motion and assured that the BJP is prepared to support the families in every possible way.

Regarding the incident's security arrangements, Singh was critical, remarking that volunteers from the event organizer, self-styled godman Suraj Pal alias 'Bhole Baba,' had blocked police access, hindering proper safety measures. He pointed fingers at Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of politicizing the tragedy instead of offering solace to the victims.

During his visit, Rahul Gandhi, concerned about the lack of police presence and administrative shortcomings, pressed for more substantial compensation from CM Yogi Adityanath. He called for an open-hearted approach to aid the grieving families.

Gandhi arrived in Hathras early Friday morning, met the distressed families, and later made a stop in Aligarh to continue his condolence visits.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Gandhi stated, 'This is a sad incident, and many lives have been lost. My focus is to address administrative failings. Immediate compensation to these poor families is crucial. I request CM Yogi Adityanath to act generously.'

CM Yogi Adityanath has since visited the site, initiating a judicial inquiry led by retired Justice Brijesh Kumar Srivastava. The appointed commission has two months to deliver a comprehensive report on the incident, which preliminary findings attribute to a rush caused by devotees clashing with security personnel.
