The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force gunned down the accused, Anuj Pratap Singh, in a pre-dawn encounter in Unnao district on Monday. This follows the killing of another accused, Mangesh Yadav, on September 5, which sparked political controversy.

Priyanka Gandhi called the acts of political dominance and violent law enforcement an insult to the Constitution, urging that 'unconstitutional' encounters be judicially investigated.
