A contentious atmosphere enveloped the closing ceremony of the Kerala School Games on Monday as students staged a sit-in protest, questioning the fairness of the results. The students alleged unnecessary force was used by police, while authorities countered that no such mistreatment occurred.
The protest was sparked by students from Mar Basil HSS Kothamangalam and Navamukunda HSS, who argued that GV Raja Sports School was unfairly awarded the second position. They claimed the school falls under the sports school category, thus skewing the competition.
Amidst chants against Education Minister V Sivankutty, the police managed to disperse the protestors without using force. Minister Sivankutty assured the aggrieved parties that their grievances will be looked into, despite a vociferous minority persisting in their complaints.
