Thane's Central Jail in Maharashtra is creating a splash with its 'Diwali Mela', an exhibition-cum-sale featuring intricately crafted items by the prison inmates. The week-long event, launched on Tuesday, is set just outside the jail complex.
Display items range from earthen lamps and sky lanterns to furniture and bakery goods like oats biscuits. Jackets and cotton towels are also on sale, offering a diverse array of products for interested buyers.
Inaugurated by Thane collector Ashok Shingare, the event highlights the efforts of voluntary organizations that provide skill-building training to inmates, with Thane Central Jail's superintendent Rani Bhosle in attendance.
