In a concerning development, four wild elephants have been found dead in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district, according to local forest department officials. While the cause of death remains unclear, efforts are being made to determine what led to this tragic event.

The discovery was made during routine patrols by forest guards in the Salkhania and Bakeli areas of the Khitoli range, a well-known tourist location. Deputy Director Prakash Kumar Verma confirmed that four other elephants from the same herd of 13 were ill and are currently receiving treatment.

As investigations continue, BTR staff are actively monitoring the remaining elephants to ensure their safety. A post-mortem examination of the carcasses will be critical to uncovering the cause of death, officials indicated.
