The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are set to see a significant expansion in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), as four new units and an Air Squadron are launched in Udhampur. This development, scheduled for an official inauguration on October 25, includes the addition of two microlight aircraft.
This initiative, which follows the Ministry of Defence's decision to increase NCC vacancies, aims to provide new opportunities for the region's youth, according to Defence Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal. 'This initiative aims to inspire a new generation of aviators in the region and foster essential skills in leadership, teamwork, and discipline,' he stated.
The new units, located in Udhampur, Kupwara, and Kargil, will enable the enrollment of an additional 13,950 cadets. The programme is part of India's broader efforts to engage and empower young people. The new Air Squadron will provide comprehensive aviation training, emphasizing 'air-mindedness' and aircraft safety protocols.
