Sri Lanka's new Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, defended the government's decision to allow a Chinese military training ship to dock in Colombo. Herath stated that this move is consistent with the nation's diplomatic framework, emphasizing that such visits are harmless and part of routine engagements.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy training ship 'Po Lang' arrived in Colombo on Tuesday as part of its ocean-going journey, aimed at developing midshipmen's skills and fostering naval exchanges. Herath highlighted that Sri Lanka's diplomatic relations with various countries remain balanced.

Despite past hesitations about foreign vessels within Sri Lanka's Exclusive Economic Zone, Herath stated that the nation welcomes military training ships to promote international cooperation while protecting national interests. The visiting vessel's activities include cultural exchanges and technical discussions, signifying cooperation between the two navies.
