A new and controversial piece of public art has become the talk of Naples. The 12-metre creation by the late designer Gaetano Pesce was recently unveiled in one of the city's main squares, gaining attention for its distinctly phallic form and provocative title, 'Tu si' 'na cosa grande,' or 'You're a big thing,' referencing the local dialect.

The cylindrical installation pays homage to the classic Neapolitan Commedia dell'Arte character Pulcinella. This new artwork replaces Michelangelo Pistoletto's 'Venus of the Rags,' a supersized adaptation of a classical Roman statue accompanied by a pile of discarded clothing, previously exhibited in the lively Piazza del Municipio.

The recent addition of this daring piece has certainly stirred local opinions. 'After the famous Venus of the Rags, we couldn't miss this one, which honestly is a phallic symbol in all its glory,' remarked Matteo Vasta, a Naples resident. Another local, Rosalba, expressed her curiosity about the artistic intent behind Pesce's bold installation. Pesce, who passed away in New York earlier this year, was celebrated for his inventive use of color and materials, often featuring socio-political and pop culture themes.
