India's Maritime Marvel: Lothal's Heritage Complex Set to Anchor Tourism

In a significant move to bolster tourism and celebrate India's rich maritime history, the government has approved the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) project at Lothal, Gujarat. The decision was made at a Union Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with expectations to create 22,000 jobs.
The Prime Minister, in a statement on X, expressed that the complex would deepen interest in the nation's historical roots. Official sources indicate that approximately 15,000 direct and 7,000 indirect jobs will emerge from this initiative. The NMHC aims to support local communities and contribute to academic, cultural, and environmental sectors.
Renowned architect Hafeez Contractor has crafted the master plan for the NMHC, which Tata Projects Ltd will bring to life in multiple phases. Phase 1A will feature an extensive museum, including a gallery dedicated to the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. Subsequent phases will expand the site with coastal state pavilions and a hospitality zone.
