Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and several others from Ladakh paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial, Rajghat, on Wednesday evening and subsequently ended their fast after being released from police detention.
The group submitted a memorandum to the government listing their demands, which include constitutional protections for Ladakh's ecology under the Sixth Schedule. Wangchuk announced that they have been assured of a meeting with top leadership soon.
A senior police officer confirmed the release, stating that they were allowed to go after promising not to gather or hold any yatra, given the imposition of Section 163 in central parts of the capital.
