Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa arrived at the Singhu border on Tuesday, following the late-night detention of activist Sonam Wangchuk and other protestors by the police. In an interview with ANI, Hanifa highlighted the ongoing discussions with the government to protect Ladakh's environmental and constitutional rights.
Hanifa stated, "For the past three years, we have been peacefully fighting for our rights. While we had talks with the government, they ceased after the elections and the formation of the new government. We embarked on a foot march from Leh under the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Apex Body to present our views. However, after Wangchuk's detention, we marched to discuss our issues with the government. Several protestors, including women, were detained in various locations."
He appealed to PM Modi and Amit Shah to either provide a space in Delhi to conclude their march and submit a memorandum or engage in dialogue to resolve the issues. Hanifa emphasized Ladakh's history of sacrifice for the nation and warned of potential unrest if their demands were not met. Meanwhile, a silently protesting member described the detentions as 'brute injustice', stating that around 300 peaceful protestors were detained without cause.
