The remains of Narayan Singh, a soldier missing for 56 years following an IAF plane crash near Rohtang Pass, Himachal Pradesh, are set to be returned to Chamoli district this Thursday, officials have confirmed. Singh's body was among four discovered recently during an army search operation.

Narayan Singh, originally from Kolpuri village in Tharali, served in the Indian Army's Medical Corps. His remains will receive a military burial at his family's ancestral site. An official stated that the soldier's last rites will be conducted with full military honors.

The ill-fated Indian Air Force flight, en route from Chandigarh to Ladakh, crashed on February 7, 1968, leading to the disappearance of all aboard. Singh's wife, Basanti Devi, passed away in 2011, never knowing the fate of her husband.
