Empowering Local Bodies: Key to India's Viksit Bharat by 2047

India must focus on the development of its hinterland to achieve the goal of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047, according to Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu.
Murmu noted that decentralization of power has not been fully realized and emphasized the importance of gram sabhas in the federal structure.
He pointed out that without grassroots development, the nation's development goals will remain unattainable, stressing the significance of Jan Bhagidari and local governance.
Murmu highlighted the role of local bodies in ensuring the success of government schemes and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting the importance of accounting and auditing in fund allocation and economic efficiency.
Vivek Bhardwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, and ICAI President Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal underscored the collaboration with CAG to strengthen financial frameworks at local levels.
