In a significant development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations that animal fat was used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus.

The announcement came amid widespread national outrage and demands for measures to preserve the sanctity of Hindu temples and their 'prasadam'. Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of altering procurement procedures for ghee, which is essential for making the laddus, while YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy vehemently denied the allegations and accused Naidu of spreading falsehoods for political gain.

The dispute has moved to the Supreme Court, with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed for an SIT investigation. The controversy has reignited calls to free temples from government control and to allow religious leaders to oversee temple management.
