A 150-year-old Municipal Corporation Office building, which also served as the first hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, is undergoing a Rs 27 crore makeover.

Scheduled for completion by December 2024, the building will be showcased as a heritage site during the Mahakumbh in early 2025. The idea to preserve the structure came after consultations between the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and IIT Bombay.

The restoration project, led by Savani Heritage, Mumbai, uses traditional materials to ensure the building's historical character is retained. The Municipal Commissioner believes the renovated building will attract numerous visitors during the Mahakumbh.
