In a bid to ease tensions surrounding the Sanjauli mosque issue in Shimla, a Muslim welfare committee has proposed demolishing the unauthorised section of the mosque. Members of the community have already taken proactive steps by dismantling a wall of a mosque situated on government land in Mandi.
During a representation to Shimla Municipal Commissioner Bhupendra Attri, the welfare committee, comprising the Imam and members of the Waqf board and mosque management committee, emphasized that the action was aimed at preserving harmony and brotherhood among Himachal Pradesh residents.
Shimla police have registered eight FIRs against protestors involved in earlier demonstrations demanding the demolition of the unauthorised mosque portion. Security measures have been heightened around Shimla's 14 mosques. Meanwhile, a minister accused a former chief minister of funding part of the mosque's construction, an allegation that was refuted.
