Tribute to Rebecca Cheptegei After Tragic Death

Her image appeared on a giant screen at the Esplanade des Invalides, receiving applause from spectators. Cheptegei died after a severe attack by her boyfriend in Kenya that left her with burns over 75% of her body.

She is the third prominent female athlete killed in Kenya since October 2021. In her honor, the mayor of Paris has announced plans to name a sports facility after her.
