At least ten persons from Maharashtra's Marathwada region lost their lives over the past three days due to relentless heavy rains, authorities reported.

The rains, which pounded the region since September 1, caused widespread devastation but subsided by Tuesday evening.

The primary survey revealed crop damage on nearly 11.67 lakh hectares in seven districts, with Nanded facing the worst impact. The rains affected 284 revenue circles, leading to crop loss in 883 villages, impacting 14.62 lakh farmers. The torrential downpour also killed 523 animals and damaged 1,126 houses.

Yet, the rains positively affected water storage levels. The Jayakwadi Dam, crucial for industrial, agricultural, and drinking needs in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and nearby Jalna, now stands at 90% capacity. Overall, major projects in the region have reached 77.63% average storage, with no projects in dead storage, marking improved water availability.
