Lance Naik Charan Singh (retd), a decorated World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday at his home in Himachal Pradesh. The Indian Army commemorated the occasion, highlighting Singh's 17 years of dedicated service and his prestigious awards, including the Burma Star.
Singh's military career began in 1942 in Firozepur Cantonment and spanned numerous locations from Singapore to Lahore and Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh. After retiring in 1959, Singh now resides in Dekwala village, surrounded by his family.
A Brigadier-led team from the Army joined in the centennial celebrations, underscoring the long-standing tradition of honoring veterans. The event served as a poignant reminder of the Army's motto: 'Once a soldier, always a soldier.'
