In a significant move to bolster the rural economy, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced initiatives targeting milk procurement at a review meeting on Tuesday. The Congress government, he said, is ensuring remunerative prices for local milk producers, with digitization forming part of the pilot scheme in select societies.

During the meeting, Sukhu highlighted that the state is leading the country by introducing the highest minimum support price for milk - setting cow milk at Rs 45 per litre and buffalo milk at Rs 55 per litre. The plans for the upcoming budget include several initiatives, including a Rs 161.52 crore investment to establish six new milk chilling and processing plants.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the operational launch of a new high-capacity milk processing plant in Kangra district by March 2026. Stressing the importance of technological advancement, he directed that milk procurement efficiency and transparency be enhanced through digitization, real-time data management, and GPS-enabled logistics.
