Punjabi comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi on Tuesday acknowledged that objections to a film made with an agenda are valid. He was responding to the ongoing controversy surrounding actor-politician Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency'.

The movie, directed and co-written by Ranaut, who is a BJP Lok Sabha member, was due for release on September 6 but is currently awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film has sparked a significant controversy after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) issued a legal notice to the producers, alleging misrepresentation of Sikh character and history.

At a promotional event for his own film "Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di," Ghuggi emphasized the importance of not misusing cinema.

Ghuggi elaborated, saying, 'Cinema should not push any agenda, especially when historical facts are involved. If there's a lack of research, it is the responsibility of the filmmakers, not the audience or any religious body.'

Even though Ghuggi has not watched 'Emergency,' he stated he is aware of the objections and considers them valid. He highlighted the importance of historical accuracy in filmmaking.

In 'Emergency,' Ranaut portrays former prime minister Indira Gandhi, adding to the film's contentious nature. Gippy Grewal, co-star of 'Ardaas,' stressed the necessity for filmmakers to conduct thorough research.

'Before making 'Ardaas', we submitted our script for approval and ensured there were no objections post-shooting,' Grewal explained.

The film 'Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di', directed by Grewal, is the third installment in the franchise featuring Jasmin Bhasin, Prince Kanwaljeet Singh, Malkeet Rauni, and Raghuveer Boli.
