In a contentious move, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to abolish the longstanding practice of a two-hour adjournment for Jumma prayers in the state assembly. RJD leader Manoj Jha harshly criticized the decision, labeling it as 'dog whistle' politics aimed at polarization.
Speaking to ANI, Jha remarked, 'The Assam community will never stand for this kind of politics. Such people will go into the dustbin of history.' He further condemned the CM's focus on divisive politics rather than addressing pressing issues like poverty.
NDA ally JDU's leader Neeraj Kumar also voiced his disapproval, stating that the decision goes against the core principles of the Constitution. Highlighting religious rights, Kumar questioned whether similar bans would be imposed on Hindu religious practices. This controversial decision has sparked a broader debate about the role of religion in legislative proceedings.
