In a notable development, NCP (SP) Chief Sharad Pawar has stressed the necessity of a minimum Rs 50 crore fund to reconstruct the legendary Keshavrao Bhosale theatre in Kolhapur, arguing that the Rs 20 crore sanctioned by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde falls short.
The historic auditorium, over 100 years old and a heritage icon of Kolhapur, was devastated by a fire on August 8. Speaking at an event post his visit, Pawar, also a Rajya Sabha member, declared a Rs 1 crore contribution from his MP fund towards the theatre's restoration.
He urged public representatives to similarly contribute, highlighting the importance of creating a state-of-the-art facility for artists. Pawar criticized the general reluctance of public figures to fund arts and culture projects, encouraging them to recognize their significance and donate generously.
