'Emergency', the upcoming Kangana Ranaut-starrer, finds itself mired in controversies as it faces backlash from multiple Sikh groups and awaits certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite these challenges, the film's team remains optimistic about its release.

At a music launch event in the national capital, lyricist Manoj Muntashir assured ANI that 'Emergency' is an 'honest film.' Muntashir, who contributed songs for the film, said it will offer a balanced perspective and refuted claims of bias.

The biographical political thriller focuses on former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, detailing the 21-month emergency period she imposed from 1975 to 1977. The film, featuring Ranaut as Indira Gandhi, also stars late actor Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Mahima Chaudhry.

On social media, Ranaut alleged that the censor board had received death threats over some scenes, including those depicting the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the Punjab riots. She claimed the certification process has been halted due to these threats. The film, produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, is scheduled for release on September 6, 2024.
