In a groundbreaking move, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to offer free tea and snacks to its field staff across various departments. This initiative will benefit over 5,000 employees including sweepers, gardeners, and linemen. An official disclosed that this decision is inspired by similar practices in the police and paramilitary forces.
'Our field workers, such as sweepers, begin their duties as early as 4 am to ensure cleanliness before the day's traffic starts. Finding food or tea at that time is challenging, making this step commendable,' the official stated.
According to the official, NDMC is the first municipal body in India to implement such a program. This act of providing free refreshments is intended to appreciate and support these workers who often operate under difficult conditions. Specific details on implementation have not been disclosed. 'This initiative is a blessing, especially in the early hours and winter when finding food or tea is tough,' an NDMC lineman commented.
