Zambia to Compete in Paris Paralympics Despite Opening Ceremony Snub
Zambia will participate in the Paris Paralympics despite their absence from the opening ceremony due to lack of travel confirmation. IPC spokesperson Craig Spence confirmed their plans after receiving proof of arrival. Two Zambian athletes will compete on September 4 and 5. The opening ceremony, widely anticipated and celebrated, set a high standard for the Games.
Zambia will take part in the Paris Paralympics even though they were not included in the opening ceremony. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) stated that the oversight was due to Zambia's failure to confirm their travel plans in advance.
IPC spokesperson Craig Spence explained that Zambia's flag was missing from the parade as they hadn't received any communication or tickets from the Zambian delegation. However, proof of their arrival was submitted on Thursday morning, ensuring their participation.
Paris 2024 director of ceremony Thierry Reboul expressed excitement about the ceremony's role in stoking enthusiasm for the Games. The opening event was broadcast to 10 million viewers on French TV, marking a significant moment in Paralympic history. The ticket sales are projected to break previous records, signaling a successful event ahead.
