The Shiromani Akali Dal's Delhi unit has petitioned the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to stop the release of Kangana Ranaut-starrer 'Emergency'. The party argues that the film has the potential to incite communal tension and disseminate misinformation. Ranaut, who is also a BJP MP, plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, scheduled for release on September 6.

In a letter to the CBFC on Wednesday, the party's Delhi president, Paramjit Singh Sarna, stated that the film's trailer depicts erroneous historical facts. According to Sarna, these misrepresent the Sikh community and promote hatred and social discord.

Sarna further stressed that such depictions are misleading and offensive, posing a threat to the social fabric of Punjab and India. Given the film's potential to incite communal tensions, Sarna urges the CBFC to exercise its authority to prevent its release. He highlighted the fine line between freedom of speech and the propagation of hateful content. This film marks Ranaut's first release since becoming an MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on a BJP ticket.
