BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Saturday appeared before the Telangana State Women's Commission, expressing regret and issuing a formal apology for his controversial comments about women traveling in state-run RTC buses.
Rao had previously commented on the Congress government's scheme of free travel for women, suggesting that his party had no objection to women engaging in activities like knitting while on the buses, but emphasizing the need to avoid scuffles. His remarks drew sharp criticism, prompting the Women's Commission to issue summons.
During the proceedings, Rao acknowledged that his statements were inappropriate for someone in his position. The Commission accepted his apology but warned of further action if similar incidents occur. Outside the office, mild tension arose as Telangana Women Congress workers staged a protest demanding a public apology, while BRS women leaders claimed they were attacked by Congress activists.
