Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday praised the Narendra Modi government for its efforts to uplift backward classes while accusing the Congress-led opposition of offering only 'lip service' to the cause.

The Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare was speaking at a party event in memory of freedom fighter Ramphal Mandal, who was executed for killing three British officials involved in the 1942 Quit India movement.

Chouhan highlighted that Mandal, a member of the dhanuk backward class, symbolized contributions to nation-building that continue to be recognized under the current regime. He further praised Modi for providing 27% OBC reservations in entrance tests and granting constitutional status to the National OBC Commission, contrasting it with the Congress's lack of action.

He stressed the Modi government's commitment to building 13 lakh houses for the homeless and promoting women's entrepreneurship through schemes like Lakhpati Didi. Additionally, he mentioned efforts to boost agricultural output and support farmers during natural calamities.
