Warner Bros has revealed the trailer for the highly anticipated anime film 'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.' Slated for a December 13, 2024 release, this new chapter in the Middle-earth saga offers a fresh viewpoint on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic universe.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, 'The War of the Rohirrim' takes place 261 years before the events of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and centers on the legendary Helm Hammerhand, according to Variety. The film depicts the origins of Helm's Deep and Helm's defense against a powerful Dunlending army, with Brian Cox voicing the revered King of Rohan and Miranda Otto returning as Eowyn.

Key roles are played by Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Laurence Ubong Williams, and Shaune Dooley. The script, penned by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, is based on a story by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. The film is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema, and Sola Entertainment, with Joseph Chou producing and Phillippa Boyens serving as executive producer.

The creative team includes contributors from the original 'LOTR' trilogy, such as Richard Taylor, Alan Lee, and Tolkien illustrator John Howe. Kamiyama, known for 'Blade Runner: Black Lotus' and 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex', brings his expertise to this project.

The anime prequel promises visually captivating and action-packed adventure through Tolkien's lore. Additionally, fans can look forward to the second season of Prime Video's 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', which continues the Middle-earth saga independently of this animated film.
