Meera Menon, an Indian expatriate living with her family in Bangladesh for 16 years, is caught between safety concerns and the emotional attachment her family has developed with Dhaka. Her mother in Kerala frequently urges them to return due to ongoing political unrest.

Since the mass protests against the Sheikh Hasina government began in July, many Indians have left Bangladesh. Menon, however, finds it difficult to leave, especially for her daughter, Avantika, who considers Dhaka home.

The Dhaka Malayalee Association, where Menon serves as president, has seen many members relocate back to India. Despite the precarious situation, Menon and her family remain rooted to Dhaka, hoping for a return to normalcy.
