Former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday felicitated members of the Indian hockey team, who recently secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

Patnaik, the current Leader of Opposition and BJD president, honored the players by gifting them shawls and silver filigree artworks depicting the iconic Konark wheel. In return, the team presented Patnaik with a jersey signed by all members.

"Many congratulations from my side to you all. I hope next time you will bring gold," Patnaik said to the players. He was accompanied by Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey at his residence in Bhubaneswar.

The team expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support from Odisha and its people. They lauded Patnaik's tenure for its monumental decision to sponsor the Indian hockey team when there were no other sponsors, a move that has significantly contributed to the sport's resurgence in India.

Since 2018, Patnaik's administration has been a steadfast supporter of the national men's and women's hockey teams.
